Lock the storm drains—Pennywise is back. Fresh off a major awards win, HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry is charging into Season 2, with creator Andy Muschietti teasing a darker, bigger nightmare poised to out-scare its chilling debut.

Pennywise just got a fresh burst of momentum. After a big night at the Saturn Awards, It: Welcome to Derry is lining up a second season that aims to go bigger and meaner — at least if the guy who launched this version of Derry has his way.

A win, a mic, and a promise

At the 2026 Saturn Awards, co-creator and executive producer Andy Muschietti stepped up to the press line with a confident tease about Season 2. The prequel series — set in Stephen King territory and tethered to Muschietti’s It films — had just taken home Best Horror Television Series, topping a stacked field that included The Last of Us and another King adaptation, The Institute.

'We are very proud that the expectations are high after the first season. I think we are going to deliver something that is greater.'

That is Muschietti, not exactly underselling it. If Season 1 was the town’s bad dream, he sounds ready to turn it into a full-blown nightmare.

So where is the renewal?

Here is the slightly strange part: HBO has yet to make Season 2 official on paper. The vibe around the show says otherwise.

Back in late January, HBO CEO Casey Bloys addressed the status head-on. He praised Season 1’s performance — calling a second round an easy business call — and said the creative wheels are already turning with Andy Muschietti and his producing partner Barbara Muschietti developing new story ideas.

'Not in limbo.'

Short, clear, and exactly the reassurance fans wanted.

The plan under the bed

Showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane have been open about a broader vision. The team has mapped out a multi-season roadmap — three seasons, specifically — that tracks different cycles of Pennywise’s reign of terror in Derry. Season 1 planted the mythology; Season 2 sounds positioned to push deeper into the town’s rot.

Where things stand right now

  • It: Welcome to Derry just won the Saturn Award for Best Horror Television Series, ahead of The Last of Us and The Institute.
  • An official Season 2 renewal remains pending, but leadership signals strong confidence in moving forward.
  • Andy and Barbara Muschietti are actively developing new story ideas for the next chapter.
  • Showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane have teased a three-season arc exploring multiple Pennywise cycles.

Bottom line: awards heat, audience momentum, and a creator openly promising to top himself. If you like your clowns ancient and hungry, Derry is gearing up for another feast.
