There are never too many gangster showdowns, innit?

Director Gareth Evans is all about violence, intense hand-to-hand combat and The Raid with Iko Uwais. His films about an Indonesian policeman named Rama brought him worldwide fame, but Evans went further, first making the thriller Apostle and then working as a showrunner for British television.

His TV work is called Gangs of London. It is a brutal tale of revenge in which all the characters are connected to the fictional criminal world of the British capital.

What is Gangs of London About?

The story centers on young Sean Wallace, played by Joe Cole from Peaky Blinders. He is the son of a murdered crime boss, and now seeks revenge. The people closest to Sean are his mother, his drug-addicted brother and his best friend, the son of his father's right-hand man.

Next to them are nine mob bosses and a man named Elliot, who shows up at just the right moment to help track down his father's killers. Good company to start a war with, right?

Gangs of London is One of the Most Brutal Crime Shows Right Now

Possibly the bloodiest and most brutal show on British television for years, Gangs of London full of severed limbs, gallons of blood and a whole lot of gunplay.

For Gareth Evans, working on Gangs of London was definitely a step up. He was responsible for creating the show, worked with several directors, gave us two brilliant seasons and once again showed that he knows how to direct action.

One episode contains a torture scene so brutal that its inventiveness could rival that of Lars von Trier or Michael Haneke. It is pointless to describe it, but it is impossible to tear yourself away from watching it.

The only problem with Gangs of London is that it doesn't offer anything new to the viewer – it's just two seasons of gangster showdowns. But if you binge-watched Peaky Blinders a few years ago, you'll definitely like this project.

The show has been promoted as a series from the creator of The Raid, so it will appeal to Gareth Evans fans and those who don't expect Boardwalk Empire-level drama from the show. The entire narrative is built on violence, and it pays off in spades.

Gangs of London is Coming to Netflix

Both seasons of Gangs of London are coming to Netflix very soon – the series will be available on the platform on August 31, so mark your calendars.
