The actor decided to keep a memento of his time on the show.

The Vampire Diaries was one of the most popular shows of the 2010s, making every actor associated with it a huge star in the minds of dedicated fans. Even some of the props from the show became real collectibles, as the wealthiest fans started buying them as keepsakes after the show ended.

However, there is one item that is unlikely to ever become part of any The Vampire Diaries collection — Stefan's daylight ring.

After the show finished in 2017, actor Paul Wesley, who played Stefan, decided to grab something from the set to remember the time he spent filming, so he picked up his character's ring as his prop of choice. In the show, daylight rings were used by vampires to protect themselves from daylight so it wouldn't harm their skin and health.

The item was both personally valuable and quite small, so the show's producers did not mind giving it to Paul as a keepsake. Even though it could've been sold for a pretty penny, everyone agreed that the actor deserved to keep the prop that obviously meant something to him.

But sadly, it looks like Wesley wasn't careful with his daylight ring at all!

'I did a show called The Vampire Diaries, and I wore this [...] daylight ring. It was, like, really important. At the end of the show, I was like, "I'm taking this ring." And I lost it. Somebody one day will find that ring,' Wesley said.

The actor kept the ring for a while but eventually lost it, which means that one day someone can actually find and claim it. Hopefully, this lucky person will be familiar with The Vampire Diaries so they'll be able to recognize the daylight ring and keep it — or sell it for a hefty price because an item with such a provenance will surely attract a lot of dedicated fans!

In any case, no one in the fandom seems to be angry at Wesley for losing the ring, since it was his by right, and the fact that he lost it sounds more like an anecdote than a reason to blame the actor.
