Paul Wesley Makes It Very Clear Where He Stands on TVD Revival
The former vampire is not planning to sink his teeth into anything The Vampire Diaries related.
Paul Wesley was made famous for his role as vampire Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries, a drama-romance supernatural series that followed a love triangle involving two vampire brothers, and the dark happenings in the town of Mystic Falls.
Stefan stole the hearts of fans all over the world during the show's 8 season run, and whilst many have been hopeful to see the sweet, loyal vampire return to screens in some way or another, the actor has other ideas.
Wesley, who is now 40 years old, gave the idea of acting in any kind of TVD reboot a 'hard pass.' And that applies to any vampire-related roles in the future as well.
He has expressed nothing but fond memories from his time as Stefan on the series, he still makes the occasional appearance at fan conventions and keeps in contact with some of his co-stars, but his Vampire Diaries days are long over.
Wesley has explained that 'eight years is a long time' to play one character, and although he managed to keep Stefan dynamic and explore different character arcs, it's hard not to get tired of the same thing. He is undeniably grateful for the opportunity he had, but has been honest in expressing that he doesn't 'really miss playing anything about him.'
The actor seems to have accepted that he will always be recognized as the smoldering but sweet Stefan above anything else, as it was the role that made him famous.
However, even during his time on TVD, Wesley was looking to expand his career. The show ran from 2009 to 2017, and during that time Wesley took a more active role behind the camera.
In season 5 he got involved in directing TVD and then produced the series at the start of season 8. In 2016 Wesley co-founded his production company Citizen Media.
In recent years Wesley has also grown his acting career, appearing in Tell Me a Story, Medal of Honour, and more recently as James T. Kirk for the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
We may want Paul Wesley to make a TVD comeback in the future, but he has long since outgrown his role on the show. Fans will have to accept that he will live immortally in their hearts and minds, but not on TV.
