Outlander Spin-Off's Fate is Uncertain Amid SAG & WGA Strikes
Looks like we'll have to pine for the Frasers' love story much longer.
Dear Outlander fans, if you've ever wanted to find someone (preferably a strapping redheaded Highlander with strong arms) to hold you, now might be the time. See, Draughtlander is more real than we thought.
Executive producer Maril Davis recently shared with Daily Express US that not only is the final eighth season of the popular time-hopping series in limbo due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes, but Outlander's long-awaited prequel, Blood of My Blood, will definitely be delayed. Even though work on both shows began before the strikes broke out.
'We were in the room for Season 8 and were in the room for the prequel and had started to do prep on both of those shows,' Davis said. 'You know, listen, this is a crazy time and I'm fully supportive of the writers and the actors and I want them to get their fair due. But it's been really tough. There's such a collaborative medium and obviously things are on hold.'
Blood of My Blood is set to tell the love story of Brian and Ellen Fraser, Jamie's parents. Outlander fans know from Season 1 that their story, set against the backdrop of the Jacobite Rebellion, was just as romantic as that of Jamie and Claire, if not more so.
Brian was a laird's bastard, and Ellen's parents didn't accept him as a worthy partner for her. But despite being promised to another man and her family's objections, Ellen married Brian and the two eloped. Sounds like a hit, right? A hit that may not see the light of day for a few years.
If earlier this year fans were hoping the spin-off would make it to the small screen by 2024 or 2025 at the latest, now the show's fate is uncertain.
'I hope we all get back to work soon for the crews and for everyone,' Maril Davis said. 'I don't have any updates except to say, we were in process at the early stages of both. So I hope we get back soon.'
Well, at least the second part of Season 7 will reportedly be released on schedule (though not yet announced by Starz), sometime in 2024. Davis told HELLO! Magazine that it was not affected by the strikes because the creative work on the final eight episodes was completed before they began.
