Starz historical drama Outlander is set to release its seventh and final season on June 16, 2023, and so far, everything about it has been a source of endless disappointment for the show's fans.

Even though not much is known about the main storyline or subplots of the upcoming season, the way Starz handled the release had fans seeing red.

Recently, the network managed to frustrate fans by teasing the titles of the first eight episodes of the upcoming season in a reel on the show's official Instagram account.

While some fans shared the emotional sentiment of the post and their excitement for the new season, others noted that the list stopped at Episode 8, which reminded them of the biggest disappointment of the upcoming season.

The thing is, when Starz first announced Season 7, they got fans excited by saying that the season would be extended, with 16 episodes instead of the usual 13. However, all that excitement was later dashed when it was revealed that the episodes would be split into two parts with a one-year gap between them.

The remaining eight episodes of the season will air in 2024. The news didn't sit well with viewers, who already had to wait two years for Season 6, which was shorter than usual with only eight episodes.

'Just hard to stay pumped about something that takes so long to come to screen,' one of the fans commented under the post.

Even though the creators explained that the post-production phase of the season would take too long and wouldn't allow them to release all 16 episodes at once, fans felt that splitting the season into two parts was nothing more than a ploy to keep subscriptions to the Starz streaming service high for two years instead of one. After all, Outlander is Starz flagship show, and it is likely that many subscribers will drop the service once it ends.

'We're still not happy you’re not giving us a full season @outlander_starz,' a fan wrote, commenting on the post. 'It’s not a true season 7 if it’s split!'

Fans feel that spreading one season over two years is unfair to the show's large audience. From a viewer's perspective, it would be much better to think of the show as having two more seasons, each with 8 episodes and a separate main storyline that isn't split into two parts with a one-year gap between them.
