Outlander Season 7: Caitríona Balfe's Bold Move Leaves Fans Stunned
Fans were taken aback by Balfe's performance in last week's episode.
Starz's Outlander is currently considered one of the best fantasy series on television, and for a good reason: Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe are flawless in their roles as Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall, turning every scene they share into a marvel to behold.
The extraordinary chemistry between the two leads, excellent writing, confident direction, and stunning cinematography explain why millions of fans eagerly await each new season of Outlander.
Though it might seem that Balfe can no longer surprise her fans with her performance on the show, having portrayed Claire for seven seasons, this notion was dispelled last week. The funeral of Murdina Bug in episode 3 saw Balfe doing something she has never been recognised for before - singing.
Upon hearing Balfe sing Ave Maria a cappella during the funeral, fans began questioning whether the actress was singing the song herself or if another singer was dubbing her voice. While some people remain sceptical about Balfe's abilities, other actors quickly confirmed that it was indeed her voice, although the final result was slightly enhanced in post-production.
'It's weird that it was so overtly autotuned since when she sang in past episodes, I don't remember it being autotuned. Her voice is beautiful and a more natural sounding version would have fit better with the scene and show in general, even if not perfect,' a fan said.
Nevertheless, fans loved Balfe's singing so much that the idea of her performing a duet with Heughan for next season's opening credits spread like wildfire, with hundreds of fans urging Starz to make it happen, particularly given Season 7's lacklustre opening song.
'I would vastly prefer that over the current one for S7 honestly! Not a fan of Sinead's rendition. Yet anyway, previous ones have grown on me so we will see…' another fan noted.
In any case, it appears that Balfe can still surprise fans, even after playing Claire for nearly a decade.
Outlander Season 7 Episode 5 will arrive on Starz on 14 July 2023.
