Here are the episodes you might want to skip when watching this $500 million historical drama.

Fans love a lot about Starz's Outlander. With its time travel, sweeping history, captivating romance, mystery, and relatable everyday lives of characters that viewers inevitably grow to love, Outlander holds a special place in the hearts of millions of fans.

And as the June premiere of Season 7 approaches, more and more people are joining the fandom.

However, the show has some drawbacks, too. Like the books it is based on, Outlander tries to be as authentic as possible in its depictions of 1700s Scotland and North Carolina, which means not only gorgeous period settings and great costumes but also some highly graphic depictions of violence, torture, and sexual abuse that may be too much for sensitive viewers. Here are five episodes that longtime viewers of the show wish they could unsee.

To Ransom a Man's Soul (S1E16)

Probably the most infamous episode of the entire series is the Season 1 finale in which the love interest of the protagonist, Highlander Jamie Fraser, is tortured and sexually assaulted by Black Jack Randall, the antagonist universally hated by all the fans.

This highly graphic episode haunts every viewer who managed to watch it from beginning to end. Some even rank it among the hardest-to-watch episodes in television history.

La Dame Blanche (S2E4)

The theme of sexual violence runs through all six seasons of the show. One of the most horrifying moments comes in Season 2 when a gang attacks protagonist Claire Fraser and her new acquaintance Mary Hawkins on the streets of Paris. The scene of Mary being violated by the attackers has been burned into viewers' brains, scarring them for life.

Faith (S2E7)

Season 2 has another horrifying moment that made many viewers wish they had quit the show before it happened. The infamous Black Jack Randall is at it again, this time with a minor.

Claire and Jamie's adopted son Fergus is caught by Randall while committing a petty burglary and receives the punishment many viewers wish they could erase from their memories.

Wilmington (S4E8)

The Frasers just can't seem to take a break on Outlander. This time it is Claire and Jamie's daughter Bree who is violated by Stephen Bonnet, another villain of the series who could compete with Black Jack for the title of the vilest and most hated antagonist. A horrible scene that all who have seen it want to forget.

Never My Love (S5E12)

Of course, Outlander wouldn't be Outlander if its protagonist didn't get violently abused. One of the most graphic and horrifying scenes of sexual assault comes in Season 5, when Clair is kidnapped, tortured, and sexually abused by several men. She is rescued in the end, but this episode has fueled many viewers' nightmares.
