Outer Banks Fans Aren't All That Sold on Season 4: Three Seasons Were Enough?
What makes some shows good is their ability to come to a logical conclusion in a timely manner without stretching out over a large number of seasons.
Outer Banks implemented a fresh and modern take on the treasure hunt trope. Instead of a boring recurring storyline about mighty adventurers like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, we got ordinary young people trying to survive in poverty and, as a bonus, find the lost treasure.
And Season 3 seemed to have all the arcs wrapped up.
But lo and behold, it turns out that the creators have announced that the show will be renewed for a fourth season. This time, the characters will be searching for a new treasure that once belonged to the legendary pirate Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard. Sounds exciting, right? Turns out, not so much, as the show's fans think three seasons of Outer Banks was more than enough.
'Going further in a show like this almost feels like you’re pinching pennies, just stretching it out for financial gain as opposed to because you need to finish core plot development,' said one Reddit user.
Although Outer Banks proved to be a very entertaining, many simply do not see the point in continuing it other than as a money grab.
'They finished out the story, they got the gold, they won. Now they’re gonna make up some other plot just to keep the show going because of its popularity,' another Redditor noted.
The season three finale wrapped up all the storylines. The gold and the legendary El Dorado were finally found, as was John B.'s father, and all of the Pogues began to pursue their career and life dreams. Also, the gang is no longer being chased by the rich folks of North Carolina, so the motive for the next adventure seems too forced and artificial.
Either way, Season 4 will still be released, although it will likely have much lower ratings. Although no official release date has been announced, expect the new season to be released on Netflix in mid-2024.
