After WandaVision left his fate a mystery, Vision is back: Paul Bettany says he’s set to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, with production slated to kick off in summer 2026.

Vision has been MIA since WandaVision wrapped, but that silence just broke. Paul Bettany says he has Avengers duties on the calendar, and yes, that points straight at Avengers: Secret Wars.

So, is Vision actually back?

Sounds like it. In a chat with The Telegraph, Bettany said he has commitments to Secret Wars and dropped this little tease:

"I think I've got some Avengers duties next year."

Translation: barring the usual Marvel calendar chaos, expect Vision in Secret Wars.

When is Secret Wars happening?

Here's the current game plan: Secret Wars is gearing up to start production in summer 2026. That window could float a bit depending on pre-production (it usually does), but the target is set. The movie itself is locked in for December 17, 2027 in the U.S.

Secret Wars is the second half of Marvel's two-part Avengers endgame for the Multiverse Saga, so think of it as the big finale to this whole variants-and-branching-timelines chapter.

Before that: VisionQuest

Before we get to Secret Wars, Bettany is expected to headline his own Disney+ series, VisionQuest. Yes, the Vision is graduating from supporting synthezoid to lead synthezoid. That should give Marvel room to explain where he's been since the white Vision took off at the end of WandaVision.

What about Wanda?

That's the big emotional swing here. WandaVision kicked off the Multiverse Saga on a strong note (even if the finale wobbled), and the Wanda/Vision dynamic is still one of Marvel TV's best. Wanda seemingly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but in this era of multiversal mulligans, death is more of a speed bump than a wall.

Elizabeth Olsen has kept the door open, even while saying she isn't popping up in the project currently being called Doomsday (the one between now and Secret Wars):

"I've been really proud of what we've been able to make... I want to see her return in this role because I think what they've done with her is really great, and I love the journey she's taken... I just have no idea how or when, for sure."

If Marvel wants a crowd-pleaser, a Vision/Wanda reunion in Secret Wars is right there. After everything Wanda did and lost, it's the kind of redemption beat that could actually land.

The road ahead, at a glance

  • VisionQuest: Disney+ series led by Paul Bettany, set before Secret Wars.
  • Avengers 5 (aka the one often nicknamed Doomsday): Olsen says she isn't in it.
  • Avengers: Secret Wars: filming aims for summer 2026; U.S. release is December 17, 2027.

Bottom line: Bettany says he's back on Avengers duty, VisionQuest should set the table, and Secret Wars is positioned to close the Multiverse Saga with a synthezoid-sized swing. Now we wait.
