The acclaimed director is a self-proclaimed fan of an 'incredible' new show.
Summary
- Christopher Nolan has been one of the most talked about directors since the release of Oppenheimer.
- The director's professional opinions are highly valued in the industry.
- Nolan has expressed his appreciation for a new Showtime series.
Despite the double strike, 2023 has been a productive year for the entertainment industry, with many top-tier premieres such as Barbie, Oppenheimer and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Thanks to the success of these movies, their creators have enjoyed a lot of hype, with Christopher Nolan being one of the frontrunners in the upcoming Oscar race.
The acclaimed director of Oppenheimer is one of the most respected professionals in the industry. Nolan's attention to detail and conservative taste have earned him a reputation as a cinema pundit. Perhaps this is why his approval and criticism of other projects carry so much weight in the eyes of viewers. And now, a largely overlooked 2023 release has received the director's endorsement.
Showtime's The Curse
Premiering in early November 2023, The Curse went largely unnoticed by the public, as people were tired of releases by that point. Even its star, Emma Stone, didn't help the show gain enough traction with audiences. But The Curse seems to have successfully won over Christopher Nolan, who is an ardent admirer of the series.
'What I am excited about with this show, there's a lot of TV around, [but] this show could only be made in the anarchy of the streaming era. I mean how something as different as this gets made? And as you watch more of the series – without giving any spoilers away, I don't think it's possible to really give spoilers about this show… And one of the reasons why I don't think it's impossible is more than any show that I've seen probably since the first season of Twin Peaks, it's a show where tone is the star. Tone is sort of the point of it in a way,' Nolan said during a recent panel with The Curse's creators Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie.
Why Does Christopher Nolan Like The Curse?
Apparently, the Oppenheimer director likes the disruptive nature of the Showtime series. But more than anything, Nolan appreciates the verisimilitude of the story the show explores.
'It's too close to our own lives. All these characters are living in that moment that you wish you could change from last week where you just did [something wrong],' Christopher Nolan shared.
Most importantly, the director is in awe of the novelty The Curse brings to the television scene, because there's no other show like it, he believes.
'An incredible show that's unlike anything I've ever seen on television before. There are so few shows that come along that genuinely have no precedence,' Nolan added.
Season 1 of The Curse is available on Amazon Prime with a Paramount+ subscription.
