Only Murders in the Building is packing its bags: a new Deadline report says Season 6 will head across the pond, the series’ biggest location shake-up after New York and California.

Pack your trench coat. After hopping between New York and California, it sounds like 'Only Murders in the Building' is eying a new neighborhood… with better scones.

Season 6: across the pond (probably)

Deadline says Season 6 is believed to be set in London. The Season 5 finale lands this week, and while a renewal has not been officially announced, the trade says a sixth round is essentially a lock.

Deadline calls the renewal 'fully expected'.

Where we are now

Up to now, the mystery comedy has kept its crimes stateside, toggling between New York and California. It launched in 2021 and became an instant hit thanks to its odd-couple trio: Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The setup is simple and clever: three strangers, all obsessed with true crime podcasts, team up to investigate suspicious deaths in their Manhattan building. Awards bodies noticed too — the show has pulled in 17 Emmy nominations so far, with all three leads earning acting nods along the way.

Season 5 lineup

Season 5 brings back Martin, Short, and Gomez, along with Michael Cyril Creighton. Meryl Streep pops in as a special guest, and the season is loaded with recognizable faces rotating through.

  • Da'Vine Joy Randolph
  • Téa Leoni
  • Bobby Cannavale
  • Teddy Coluca
  • Dianne Wiest
  • Renée Zellweger
  • Christoph Waltz
  • Logan Lerman
  • Jackie Hoffman
  • Beanie Feldstein
  • Keegan-Michael Key
  • ...and more

Why London is a big swing

For a series so defined by its Manhattan building, shifting the action to London is a noticeable pivot. If the renewal arrives as expected, we may be looking at a whole new backdrop — and a fresh set of suspects — without the Arconia as home base. It is a smart way to shake up the formula without ditching the show's comfort-food vibe. And, yes, I am already picturing Martin Short trying to solve a murder in a West End dressing room.
