One Stranger Things Season Was Perfect; Others? Just Meh, According to Reddit

The show turned into a hot mess over the years.
Netflix's Stranger Things, undeniably one of the most popular and cherished shows of recent decades, has attracted millions of followers since its 2016 premiere. This supernatural teen drama centred around friends battling to prevent various monsters from invading a 1980s version of the US has kept going from strength to strength.
However, fans now seem to agree that most of the seasons penned by series creators, the Duffer Brothers, have been mediocre at best.
The show initially featured a small cast of characters, a compelling mystery, and a nostalgic 1980s small-town America ambience. This formula was a tremendous success, prompting the creators to raise the stakes in the second season. However, Netflix seemingly misunderstood the show's appeal. The audience was drawn not to grand explosions and government conspiracies but to the unique atmosphere and feel-good vibes - elements that were notably absent in subsequent seasons.
While Netflix and the Duffer Brothers profited significantly from transforming a small-scale show into a massive franchise, devoted fans were dismayed by this strategy, accusing the producers of selling out and turning the beloved show into a soulless money-making machine.
'The whole Russian storyline which took up a huge chunk of the season, the overlong runtime for every episode, especially the absolute slog of a finale which could and should have been cut down to about half the length, Mike, Will and Jonathan having absolutely nothing to do for the whole season, and the absolutely massive cast leading to some characters getting hardly any good development,' a fan said.
With the final fifth season delayed because of the ongoing WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes, it would appear that Stranger Things is going through its most challenging period yet.
