One-Punch Man Season 3 Just Posted One of Anime's Lowest Episode Ratings Ever
Episode six crashes to a new low, confirming the superhero anime’s slide from breakout hopeful to burnout.
One-Punch Man season 3 is limping along, and the latest episode just hit a wall so hard it left a crater.
That brutal IMDb score
Episode 6, titled 'Motley Heroes', is sitting at a 2.7/10 on IMDb as of now. That is not just bad for 2025 TV; it puts the episode in the conversation for one of the lowest-rated anime episodes ever. Some of that is obvious one-star bombing, sure. But scroll through the comments and there are plenty of real, specific complaints from people who watched it and felt burned.
Why fans are upset (and yeah, I get it)
- Pacing: The episode crawls through the Monster Association arc and mostly rehashes info viewers already know.
- Engagement: One reviewer said they had a "hard time not falling asleep."
- Fix-it energy: Another fan flat-out asked for the entire season to be "remade."
- Animation: Long-time fans keep calling the work "janky" and "rushed," and the six-year gap between seasons has only made those rough spots stand out more.
- Studio switch: The blame keeps landing on J.C. Staff, which took over animation from season 2 onward.
About that studio blame
J.C. Staff is the easy target, but not everyone thinks it is that simple. One Piece animator Vincent Chansard weighed in on a recent livestream with a reminder that anime production is a maze of decision-makers, not just one studio doing whatever it wants.
"I think a lot of people blame J.C. Staff, but it is a bit more complex. Sometimes, it is not about the animation studio; sometimes it is about the production committee that is on top of everything."
Translation: If you are mad, you might be mad at the wrong people. Or at least not the only people.
What is next
Season 3 is set to keep rolling through December. If it can pick up the pace and tighten the action, this stretch of the Monster Association arc could still land. If not, that 2.7 might not be the low point.
And if you are already peeking beyond this year: eyes are drifting toward 2026 anime, including the next round of Jujutsu Kaisen with season 3.
