Big flavor, clean ingredients — the family breakfast just got a healthy upgrade.

Looking for a breakfast that actually fills you up and still feels a little indulgent? This milk rice porridge with apple, raisins, and dried apricots checks all the boxes. It is simple, cozy, naturally sweet from fruit, and friendly for the whole family. Kids get energy from the rice, vitamins from the apple, and a boost of useful micronutrients from the dried fruit. Easy to make, reliably satisfying.

What you need

  • Short-grain rice - 100 g
  • Milk - 400 ml
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Medium apple - 1 (about 150 g)
  • Dried apricots - 50 g
  • Raisins - 30 g
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp (or to taste)
  • Butter - 20 g
  • Ground cinnamon - 1/4 tsp (optional)
  • Salt - a pinch

Prep the fruit

Rinse the dried apricots thoroughly and slice them into small pieces. Rinse the raisins; if they feel very dry, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes, then drain well. Wash the apple, peel it, core it, and cut it into medium cubes.

Cook the rice

Rinse the rice several times under cold water until the water runs clear. In a saucepan, combine the water and milk and bring to a boil over medium heat. Stir in the rice with a pinch of salt. Lower the heat to the minimum and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice has absorbed almost all the liquid.

Stir in the good stuff

Add the diced apple, chopped dried apricots, raisins, and sugar. Stir gently and keep cooking for another 5–7 minutes, until the fruit softens and the porridge turns creamy. If you like a warm aroma, add the ground cinnamon now.

Finish and rest

Take the saucepan off the heat, add the butter, and give it a careful stir. Cover and let the porridge sit for 5–10 minutes so the texture turns extra plush and the flavors settle in.

Serve

Spoon it up warm. A few fresh apple slices on top or a light dusting of cinnamon makes it feel a little special.
