Oh. What. Fun. 2: The Real Odds of a Sequel
Oh. What. Fun. dropped December 3, 2025 — and there’s still no word on a sequel that would bring back Michelle Pfeiffer and the ensemble. Directed by Michael Showalter, the Christmas comedy follows Claire, a mother who’s had enough and walks out on her family on Christmas.
Prime Video slipped a new holiday comedy into the lineup, and it is not exactly spreading unanimous cheer. 'Oh. What. Fun.' dropped December 3, 2025, with Michelle Pfeiffer front and center as a mom who finally snaps on Christmas and bails on her family after feeling invisible one year too many. It is the kind of premise that should be catnip in December, but the early response has been... let’s say mixed.

Sequel chatter
There are no plans (at least none public) for a sequel or reunion with Pfeiffer and the ensemble. If that changes, I will be just as curious as you.
The reception: Pfeiffer shines, the movie less so
Critics have not been kind. The film is sitting at a 47% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with most reviews calling it undercooked, a little artificial, and short on real laughs or cozy holiday vibes. The exception is Pfeiffer, who pretty much everyone agrees is commanding and elevates the material whenever she is on screen.
Why Michelle Pfeiffer was the pick
Director Michael Showalter told The AU Review that Pfeiffer was locked into the character of Claire right from the table read. He says she even picked up a Texan accent for the role and came in so dialed that it made the rest of the creative process easier. He keeps noticing tiny, honest choices in her performance every time he re-watches the film.
"It makes everything just grow, because you are not trying to figure that out anymore."
Real life vs. set life
Pfeiffer was juggling a lot while shooting in Atlanta. She told USA Today she learned her daughter was pregnant after she had already committed to her slate, and her granddaughter arrived right before 'Oh. What. Fun.' began filming. On any short break, Pfeiffer hopped flights back to New York to get time with the baby. Becoming a grandparent has her rethinking her pace: she wants to slow down, work less, and actually soak in those moments instead of barreling from project to project.
That said, her calendar is still far from empty. She has the Yellowstone spinoff 'The Madison' and the Apple TV drama 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' on deck.
Bottom line
If you are curious to see Michelle Pfeiffer carry a thorny holiday comedy on her back, 'Oh. What. Fun.' is now streaming on Prime Video. Just set expectations accordingly: the star power is here; the festive sparkle, not so much.
