OFMD is Going Parks & Rec Route with Gentlebeard, and It's a Wise Decision
There's nothing standard about Our Flag Means Death, and we dig it.
If you thought that after the heartbreaking Season 1 finale, Our Flag Means Death would pull your average romantic drama and drag out the relationship troubles of The Gentleman Pirate and Blackbeard aka Gentlebeard for the entire season, only letting them reunite and be together by the finale, you were very much mistaken.
After the hilarious mermaid moment, Ed awoke to his kind and vulnerable self, and it took only one episode for him to find his way back to Stede, and for Stede to convince the crew of the Revenge, if not to forgive Blackbeard, at least to accept him back on their ship.
More than that, they were open with each other about their feelings, and the emotional confession of love made our hearts melt. While the two loveseabirds decided to take things slow, it still felt like they were moving into a new stage of their relationship, a stage where there was no place for lies and red flags, a mature stage.
This rings a bell
While this is an unconventional turn of events, for fans of the comedy genre, the welcome relationship development is reminiscent of another beloved couple, Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt of Parks and Rec.
'I was SO worried they would keep Ed and Stede apart for most of the season. I don't want them to only be together in the end, I want them to be together NOW! It can be like Leslie and Ben on Parks and Rec, they got together, and from then on it was them vs outside forces, not them vs each other,' a fan wrote on Reddit.
Like Stede and Ed, Leslie and Ben had a quick spark, and like our favorite pirates, they quickly overcame whatever issues came their way and got together to never be broken again.
The Leslie and Ben arc is the best argument that the Our Flag Means Death story doesn't have to go downhill now that Stede and Ed are solid. On the contrary, they now form an exciting new unit that allows the creator to explore the show's fictional pirate world while diving deeper into what it means to be in an adult relationship. Sounds perfect, right?
