Now That Silo Season 1 Ended, Here Are 12 More Shows Just Like It to Watch Next
These shows will help fill the void after Silo.
The Apple TV+ series Silo, based on Hugh Howey's novels, made a huge impression on viewers with its thoughtful world-building and a simple but intriguing premise, following a group of people living in an underground bunker, long after the world above them was destroyed.
The show has been renewed for a second season, which is still a long way off, so many fans are now looking for other series that explore post-apocalyptic worlds and share the similar dystopian vibe. Here's a list of 12 shows to watch before Silo Season 2 is released, ranked by their Rotten Tomatoes score.
12. Fallout (2024)
The dystopian show based on the eponymous video game series is scheduled for release in the first half of 2024, and its plot and aesthetics are sure to appeal to all Silo fans. Depicting the aftermath of a nuclear war, Fallout will follow the inhabitants of post-apocalyptic shelters who are also supposed to serve as subjects in various experiments.
11. Invasion (2021, 1 season, 45%)
In Invasion, the story is told from the perspective of five different characters as they try to make sense of the world after it had been invaded by hostile aliens. Be sure to turn up the screen brightness on your device because the sci-fi show is incredibly dark.
10. Ascension (2014, 1 season, 67%)
Ascension follows the story of a long-distance spaceship sent by the US on a mission to colonize a new planet during the Cold War. Like Silo, the series takes place in an isolated space, several generations after the ship left the Earth. Featuring a beautiful retro aesthetic, the show mixes elements of different genres, ranging from murder mystery to political drama and police procedural.
9. Foundation (2021, 2 seasons, 72%)
Based on Isaac Asimov's book series of the same name, the show follows a group of exiles led by a mathematician who predicts the end of humanity's millennia-old Galactic Empire. While the premise is much different from Silo's, the series has the same classic sci-fi vibe.
8. Altered Carbon (2018, 2 seasons, 75%)
Though the world of Altered Carbon hasn't experienced an apocalypse, it's no less dystopian than the Silo universe. Set in a cyberpunk future, the show depicts a corrupt future controlled by the rich, striking the perfect balance between murder mystery and political action.
7. Snowpiercer (2020, 3 seasons, 75%)
A sequel to Chris Evans' action movie, the TV series is also about survivors coexisting on a giant train plowing through a frozen post-apocalyptic world. Like Silo, Snowpiercer explores the theme of class warfare.
6. Devs (2020, 1 season, 82%)
Like Juliette in Silo, the protagonist of Devs, Lily Chan, decides to investigate the 'suicide' of her late lover, who worked with her at Amaya, a Silicon Valley quantum computing company. The evidence Lily gathers leads her to the company's enigmatic CEO, Forest, who is clearly up to something.
5. From (2022, 2 seasons, 93%)
The series' characters find themselves trapped in a small Midwest town and have almost zero chances of survival, as the town is filled with horrifying monsters that come out at night.
4. The Expanse (2015, 6 seasons, 95%)
In a distant future where humanity has colonized the solar system and Mars has become an independent state with its own military, a detective, a member of the UN Security Council, and a rogue spaceship crew find themselves investigating a mysterious murder, which leads them to a vast conspiracy and a possible civil war among the inhabitants of the solar system.
3. Calls (2021, 1 season, 95%)
The story of several interconnected characters is told through their telephone conversations, leading to an inevitable apocalypse. You'll definitely enjoy Calls if you're familiar with Hugh Howey's original series and perhaps even listened to the novels in audiobook format. But even if you're not fond of audiobooks, the story is fascinating and will keep you intrigued.
2. Severance (2022, 1 season, 97%)
Lumon Industries, a powerful biotech corporation, has found a way to keep all secrets within its walls, making all employees undergo a medical procedure called 'severance,' which separates people's consciousness and memories of their work and personal lives. The secrets, intrigues, and conspiracies at the top of Lumon are similar to those in the highest circles of Silo.
1. Station Eleven (2021, 1 season, 98%)
Based on Emily St. John Mandel's novel of the same name, the TV show tells the story of a group of actors roaming North America 20 years after a mysterious flu pandemic. Probably the most original take on the theme of human survival in a post-apocalyptic world, Station Eleven will surprise you with incredible twists and turns.
