The show's been renewed, to everyone's surprise.

When the first season of Sweet Magnolias was released on Netflix in 2020, many believed the melodrama about three longtime friends would rival Virgin River, the most prominent series in this genre in the streaming giant's catalog. However, Sweet Magnolias saw its quality consistently go downhill throughout all subsequent seasons, pouring cold water on fan enthusiasm about it.

The third season was such a massive disappointment that many fans figured Netflix would just pull the plug on it. The writing and character development hit such a low even the most devoted fans find it hard to watch the show. However, it seems Netflix still trusts Sweet Magnolias' creators, seeing how it's decided to give them another chance to put things right in the just confirmed fourth installment.

Give Them Another Chance

Even though many were surprised by the renewal, most fans are still willing for the writers to have another chance at saving the show. Many have even begun offering up suggestions on how to sort out the numerous issues the show ran into in season 3.

The consensus among the fandom is that the writers need to avoid having the three lead characters constantly feud with each other. It got so bad in Season 3 that the supposed friends were acting as sworn enemies most of the time. Fans believe the series should go back to the themes it was originally based on, prioritizing romance over the city problems that dominated the recent batch of episodes.

The writers have already created great characters, so now it would be a good time to focus on developing them without too much drama revolving around convoluted storylines.

Focus on Fan-Favorite Characters

Another issue with the show's current format is that viewers are tired of having to wait for extended periods for the arcs they're most interested in to move forward. The potential romance between Ty and Annie has been a fan-favorite arc from the outset, and people were massively frustrated with the writers' reluctance to explore this relationship further in season 3.

As things stand at the moment, it would appear that the writers had better heed fan feedback if they want to restore the show to its former glory.
