It would be a safe bet if Bridgerton wasn't so surprising.

Summary

  • Bridgerton's writers changed the order of the stories for Season 3.
  • The show is looking for an actress to play a character codenamed Emily.
  • She could fit into both Benedict's and Eloise's stories.

Books and television or film are very different media, so there's no point in complaining that a movie or TV adaptation of a novel differs from the source material. After all, screenwriters do their best to tell a story in the most compelling way. So they are allowed to take creative liberties.

For example, Bridgerton's showrunners decided to change the order of the stories told on the show from the Julia Quinn novels on which it is based. While each book tells the story of a specific member of the titular family, the hit Netflix drama mixes them up to spice up the show, speed it up, and make it more diverse and eventful.

In that sense, Season 3 focused on both Colin and Francesca Bridgerton, while his book is only the fourth and hers the sixth, meaning the writers bypassed Benedict and Eloise. Given that Benedict's story should have come before Colin's, many people expect Season 4 to follow the second Bridgerton son. And the latest casting news seems to confirm that, but does it?

Bridgerton Is in the Process of Casting a New Female Character

Just recently, news broke that Bridgerton is looking for a new actress to portray a character codenamed Emily, a major recurring role that will include nude and sexual scenes. Reportedly, Emily is a young woman of East Asian descent with a stern and somewhat bold demeanor and a deep distrust of other people. Given this description, the new character seems like a romantic interest for the next Bridgerton sibling. The question is, whose?

In An Offer from a Gentleman, Julia Quinn's third novel focusing on Benedict, he meets a mysterious and enchanting young lady at a ball and falls in love at first sight, though he doesn't even know her identity because all the guests are disguised with costumes. The lady turns out to be Sophie Beckett, the daughter of a deceased earl, relegated to the position of maid by her wicked stepmother. And through the twists and turns of this Cinderella story, Benedict and Sophie find each other again.

Could this 'Emily' be Sophie, or is it someone Eloise meets on her travels?

Season 4 Will Be about…

In an interview at the premiere of Part 2 of Bridgerton's third season, the series' showrunner Jess Brownell revealed that Season 4 will take the classic two years to make, honoring the show's release pattern. As for the Bridgerton sibling to whom the new installment will be dedicated, she preferred to keep mum, so we don't know for sure if it's Benedict.

The casting of Emily may be the biggest clue pointing to a Benedict-centric fourth season. Also, Eloise's travels will likely be off-screen, so it would be odd if the audience didn't see her find love. However, it will be interesting to see how this Emily character fits in with Benedict's newfound bisexuality, if she is indeed Sophie.

Which Bridgerton sibling's story do you think 'Emily' will be a part of?
