Nope breakout Brandon Perea is stepping into the Insidious franchise, landing a leading role in Insidious 6 after stealing scenes as tech salesman Angel Torres in Jordan Peele’s hit.

Insidious 6 is officially moving, and the franchise just locked in a new front man. If you thought this series quietly went away after The Red Door printed money, nope. It is very much alive.

Brandon Perea steps in as the lead

Deadline says Brandon Perea will headline the next Insidious. No character details yet, which is par for the course with this series. Perea broke out in Nope, popped up again in Twisters, and next he is starring with Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell in Kogonada's romantic fantasy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which hits theaters tomorrow. Busy guy.

Who is already in the mix

Perea joins a cast that, according to the trades, includes an actor from The Haunting of Bly Manor (yes, that’s the way it was listed — the name was conspicuously absent), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (The Originals), Sam Spruell (Legend), and Island Austin (credited as I Can Only Imagine 2, which, yes, raised an eyebrow). Lin Shaye is back yet again as Elise Rainier — she is the backbone of this franchise and has appeared in every single film.

Behind the camera

Jacob Chase (The Girl in the Woods) is directing from a script he co-wrote with David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring: Last Rites). Horror heavyweights Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell are producing, with Ryan Turek, Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and David Leslie Johnson on board as executive producers. Insidious 6 is dated for August 21, 2026.

Why this sequel exists (short answer: The Red Door crushed)

The last entry, Insidious: The Red Door (2023), brought back the Lambert family in front of and behind the camera: Patrick Wilson directed and returned as Josh Lambert, with Rose Byrne as Renai and Ty Simpkins as Dalton. That reunion paid off — the movie cost about $16 million and hauled in over $189 million worldwide, making it the biggest earner in the series. Of course there was going to be another one.

"This truly feels like a film that is both trying to honor the movies that came before it and make them better by providing more context to them. While this is certainly a slippery slope as the unknown is often scarier than the explained, I really liked the messaging in this one. It’s about facing your fears versus hiding from them and trying to forget. While Insidious: The Red Door doesn’t break any new ground, it revitalizes the series in an interesting way. Let’s just hope they leave the Lambert family alone. They could use a break."

That was our reviewer Tyler Nichols on The Red Door, and honestly, hard to disagree. Bring on a fresh lead, keep the Further weird, and maybe give the Lamberts a long vacation.
