Heads will roll: Mortal Kombat 2 star Lewis Tan teases savage new fatalities — and no character is safe.

Mortal Kombat 2 is coming in hot, and Lewis Tan is basically telling fans to start saying their goodbyes now. The actor, who is back as Cole Young, teased that the sequel is going to swing hard with the fatalities and that the body count might include some names you actually care about.

So... is anyone safe?

Short answer: sounds like no. Talking to Comicbook.com, Tan said different drafts of the script killed off different characters, and that things kept shifting. By the time the dust settled, his vibe was that everyone should be looking over their shoulder. Expect a lot of brutal finishers, and expect fan reactions to be split down the middle. Some of you will be thrilled, some of you will be pissed off.

"Death is only the beginning."

That line was Tan leaning into the idea that if your favorite character eats it, you might not have seen the last of them. He did not spell out how that works, but fans of the games know the franchise loves to bend time and reality when it needs to. I could be reading too much into it, but I would not blink if Mortal Kombat 2 plays with timeline tricks. Imagine Karl Urban as a seasoned Johnny Cage running into a younger, cockier version of himself. Or not. We will find out when the movie hits theaters on May 15, 2026.

What the sequel is actually about

Simon McQuoid is back in the director chair for Mortal Kombat II, which lines up the fan-favorite champions again, this time with Johnny Cage in the mix. The pitch: a go-for-broke, blood-soaked showdown to stop Shao Kahn from tightening his grip and threatening Earthrealm and the people sworn to defend it. It is the kind of setup that gives the movie permission to go hard on the fights and even harder on the consequences.

Who is fighting who
