Here's Why There's No New The Summer I Turned Pretty Episode This Week

No trip to Cousins Beach this week: The Summer I Turned Pretty has hit pause, leaving fans hanging despite last week’s special announcement. Here’s why there’s no new episode—and when Belly’s story picks back up.
If you opened Prime Video hoping for a fresh episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty and got nothing, you didn’t miss a drop date. There really isn’t a new one this week. Here’s the deal, straight up.
The show actually wrapped last week
The series ended with its finale, titled "At Last," on September 17, 2025. That was the finish line, not a midseason pause. Prime Video hasn’t slotted any additional episodes for this week (or beyond), because there aren’t any. As of now, there are no more TSITP episodes planned.
But there is a movie coming
Right after the finale aired, the team confirmed a feature film is on the way. Jenny Han — the author and creator behind the show — is writing and directing it, and the movie is meant to wrap up Belly’s story. It’s still in pre-production, which is the polite industry way of saying: lots of planning, no cameras rolling yet.
"No, I don’t think so. I don’t know when it will be out, but I don’t think it’s safe to say next year because we haven’t filmed it yet," Jenny Han told Variety when asked if a 2026 release was realistic.
Why the wait? A little inside baseball
Han has been clear about the slowdown: the extra time is deliberate so the cast can age up a bit to better match the story the movie is telling. So yes, they’re literally baking birthdays into the schedule. Sensible, if not exactly instant-gratification TV.
- Finale aired: "At Last" on September 17, 2025
- Series status: Over; no new episodes scheduled
- Movie: Confirmed right after the finale
- Who’s making it: Jenny Han is writing and directing
- Status: Pre-production; filming has not started
- Timing: Not coming in 2026; based on where things are, don’t expect it before 2027
- Reason for the delay: Letting the actors get closer to adulthood for the story
What to watch while you wait
If you’re sticking around Prime Video, there are other originals to fill the gap: Gen V and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf are both sitting there, ready to stream.
