Nicolas Cage Boards Simon West's World War II Espionage Thriller as All-Star Cast Assembles

Nicolas Cage is not letting up. After dropping not one but two teasers in quick succession for his Jesus-as-child horror movie 'The Carpenter's Son' (the latest hit the internet just recently), he is already on to the next one: a World War II spy thriller called 'Fortitude' that reunites him with his 'Con Air' director Simon West. Cameras started rolling in London on September 8.

What is 'Fortitude' actually about?

This one digs into the real-deal deception games the Allies ran to throw Nazi leadership off their scent. British Army officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll 'Tar' Robertson were the architects of elaborate misinformation campaigns involving fake armies, phony gear, and a web of double agents. If that sounds like Operation Fortitude to you, yes, the production company is even called Op-Fortitude Ltd — not subtle, but I respect the commitment.

One of those double agents, Yugoslav playboy Dusko Popov, reportedly inspired James Bond. So, if you like your war movies with a side of spycraft swagger, this is that. Historian Joshua Levine (consulted on 'Dunkirk') is on board to keep the facts straight.

Simon West is directing from a script by Simon Afram (whose credits include 'Lear Rex'). Afram is also producing alongside Georgette Turner (yes, the location manager from 'Wonder Woman' stepping up here), Reza Roohi ('ATL Hustle'), and Edward Kahl ('Queen of Manhattan'). Executive producers are Bianca Goodloe and David Scaramanga, with Goodloe Law handling legal and Rich Mento, CSA, running casting.
