The new season has already stirred controversy.

Despite The Voice being on air for over a decade, the reality singing competition continues to appeal to audiences, largely due to the exceptional lineup of celebrity coaches who each bring a unique element to the show. However, Season 24 was anticipated with apprehension by fans, as for the first time in The Voice's history, country legend Blake Shelton was absent from the red chair.

The iconic coach chose to step down from his role after Season 23, deciding to concentrate on his personal life and touring. Understandably, the absence of Shelton was keenly felt in the first episode of Season 24, even though the new coaching panel, composed of John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire, gave it their all. Well, most of them did, at any rate.

Niall Gets Annoying

Undeniably, the decision to add Niall to The Voice as a coach last season was a shrewd move by the show's producers. His fresh approach to artist selection, coaching style, and overall positive energy made him a fitting addition to the show's team.

However, it would appear that Niall began to miss Shelton a little too much in this season. During the first three episodes, he mentioned his former colleague excessively, constantly invoking Shelton's name at every opportunity, regardless of whether it made sense or not.

Bad Impersonation

What's more, Niall began to act like Shelton, which really annoyed fans who wanted to see Niall being authentic rather than imitating his former colleague. We all miss Shelton greatly, but Niall is perfectly capable of entertaining people as himself without adopting the persona of the beloved The Voice coach.

Fans are hopeful that in future episodes of Season 24, Niall will refrain from constantly bringing up Shelton's name and concentrate more on coaching his singers and providing them with constructive feedback, which is his primary job on the show.

After all, Reba McEntire is more than capable of representing Shelton's expertise in country music in her own unique way, which is actually quite appealing to fans.

The Voice Season 24 Episode 5 will premiere on October 9, 2023.
