Newest Virgin River Season 6 Update Sparks Hope Among Fandom
Fans find a surprising way to communicate with Virgin River writers.
The WGA strike is over, with the Hollywood writers union and the major studios reaching a deal that satisfies everyone. On that happy note, the Virgin River series took to Instagram yesterday to update all fans on the start of work on the Season 6 script.
'Thrilled to have our writing team back in action, diving into Season 6!' the caption for the photo of all the Virgin River writers reads.
Fan reaction was unexpected
While the post was an obvious attempt to lift the spirits of the fans and give them hope that the next chapter of Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan's story would come sooner rather than later, the reaction of the dedicated viewers definitely took the writers by surprise.
Of course, fans were happy to see Virgin River resume production after a forced hiatus, but the vast majority of commenters also took the opportunity to talk to the writers about the show's declining quality.
Season 5 Part 1, which premiered on September 7, disappointed many viewers. If you thought you were the only one alarmed by the dark turn the Mel and Jack arc took in recent episodes, or the irrelevance of some new storylines, just read the comments section of the post.
I bet you'll be surprised how many Virgin River viewers feel the same way. The majority of fans agree: the essence of what made Virgin River the comforting, entertaining, addictive show it was in the early seasons has disappeared in the latest installment.
'This Season did not give us anything but a headache. Please, please, please let the next Season be so much better and more like Season 1-4,' one of the commenters wrote, echoing the general sentiment of the fandom.
Comments give hope
It may feel strange, but reading all the disappointed fan comments actually brings hope. There's no way the creators don't see the hundreds of comments and read at least the most popular of them. And the most popular ones list exactly what we missed in Season 5.
Hopefully, seeing such strong and argued feedback, the writers of Virgin River will feel encouraged to take everything the fans say into account and change their ways in the next season.
In the meantime, you have the opportunity to join the wave and share your frustration with Virgin River Season 5 via an Instagram comment. Just make sure to include suggestions and not just criticism. After all, Virgin River is still our favorite show, right?
