It would appear that a renewal announcement is about to be made or will come when Season 3 is released.

Heartstopper has emerged as one of the most popular shows on Netflix in recent years, masterfully presenting a captivating narrative about teenage love and self-acceptance that has struck a chord with viewers of all ages, from teenagers to older generations. The comic book series, created by Alice Oseman, and the live-action adaptation she wrote have attracted a significant fan base, with both longstanding fans and newcomers now being really psyched about the upcoming third season.

Oseman has stated she intends to adapt the comic book story for at least four seasons. However, fans are understandably anxious as there has been no news yet about a fourth season, despite the second and third installments having been announced immediately after the first. Fear not, dear fans, it would seem like it's just a question of time, as it's already been leaked that negotiations for Season 4 are already underway.

Encouraging Details

Not long ago, a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a screenshot of the official Netflix page, which says that Heartstopper is one of the most rewatched shows among Netflix subscribers.

This suggests there is plenty of demand for the story to continue and underscores the streaming platform's reliance on ratings in their decision-making process about which shows to renew and which to pull the plug on.

Why The Silence

The question is, though, if demand is strong and ratings are sky-high, how come Netflix still hasn't announced a fourth season? It would appear there is no cause for concern as insiders have just leaked to the Sun that a renewal is highly likely. Netflix wants a fourth season, and everything now hinges on the success of negotiations with the cast about extending their contracts.

'The cast were all unknown when they landed their roles and so signed contracts with Netflix worth next to nothing, as no one knew if the show would be a hit and it was a low budget production,' an insider shared. 'The contracts locked them in for three seasons if Netflix decided to renew it, stipulating their fee would go up five percent for a second season then ten percent for a third. Even with the increase, the cast are still being paid a fraction of what their star power now commands.'

In essence, this accurately illustrates why American writers and actors are currently on strike — the service, just like other major studios, tends to aggressively lowball creators and actors alike, and the latter are now pushing back.

But hopefully, the budding actors, who are on the verge of becoming genuine A-listers, will manage to negotiate decent terms for themselves, which means that the fourth season should be announced any day now.
