New Charlie’s Angels Movie Brings Back A Fan Favorite You Didn’t See Coming
Sony’s new Charlie’s Angels is picking up steam, with fresh intel from Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider hinting at the return of several familiar faces — and one shocking character fans never expected to see again.
Looks like Charlie has a new mission. A fresh Charlie's Angels movie is reportedly in the works at Sony, and the plan involves some very familiar faces suiting up again. One of them is a real curveball.
So, who is circling a return?
In a recent Q&A, industry reporter Jeff Sneider said the 2000s trio is being lined up to come back. Specifically, he said Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu are expected to be part of the new film. There is a catch: roles and screen time are still up in the air, so this could range from full-on leads to well-placed appearances.
"I’m hearing that Barrymore and her fellow Angels, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, are indeed expected to return for this new movie."
Barrymore's company, Flower Films, is also expected to produce, which helps explain why her name came up first.
The surprising name on the board
Demi Moore might be back, too. Yes, really. She popped up as a former Angel in 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, where her character appeared to go out in an explosion she set off herself. According to Sneider, screenwriter Pete Chiarelli has been tasked with figuring out how to bring her into the new story anyway. If that happens, expect a bold narrative swing.
Where this fits in the franchise
- Charlie’s Angels started as a TV series in 1976.
- The big-screen run kicked off in 2000, with a sequel, Full Throttle, in 2003.
- The brand got another feature reboot in 2019 with Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska.
Right now, this new movie remains in development, which means anything can evolve. But if Sony actually reunites Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu — and finds a way to fold in Moore — that is not just a nostalgia play. That is a statement.
