Netflix has renewed critical darling A Man on the Inside for Season 3, with Ted Danson returning to the star-studded hit boasting a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score.

File this under: good news for people who like funny things. Netflix is bringing back its Ted Danson comedy 'A Man on the Inside' for Season 3. Deadline says the renewal is official. Not shocking if you have eyes on critics, a little surprising if you only track the Netflix Top 10.

The quick version

  • Show: 'A Man on the Inside'
  • Star: Ted Danson
  • Creator: Mike Schur
  • Status: Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix
  • Who reported it: Deadline
  • Recent timeline: Season 2 premiered at the end of 2025
  • Reception: Sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, with both seasons clearing 90%
  • Production: Universal Television

This is one of those rare Netflix comedies that critics have championed from the start, even if it has not been a weekly chart monster. Translation: word of mouth and the reviews are strong enough to keep it rolling, which is nice to see.

Who is in this thing

Beyond Danson, the ensemble is stacked: Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, Gary Cole, Michaela Conlin, Lisa Gilroy, Max Greenfield, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Madison Hu, Sam Huntington, Jason Mantzoukas, Constance Marie, Linda Park, David Strathairn, and Jill Talley.

Behind the camera, Mike Schur executive produces alongside Morgan Sackett, David Miner, Maite Alberdi, Marcela Santibañez, Julie Goldman, and Christopher Clements.

Where Season 2 left the story

Season 2 dropped at the end of 2025 and sent Danson’s Charles Nieuwendyk into academia for a new undercover assignment. A blackmailer starts targeting Wheeler College president Jack Berenger, so Charles poses as a professor to sniff out the culprit. There might be a link to Brad Vinick, a provocative billionaire alum dangling a major donation, which gives Charles a long list of suspects. While he hunts, he also meets Mona, a free-spirited music teacher who knocks some dust off the part of his life he shut down after his wife’s death. The show keeps the case-of-the-season engine humming while digging deeper into Charles as a person, not just a disguise machine.

What to expect next

No premiere window yet for Season 3, but the renewal signals Netflix is sticking with the show’s slow-burn success: acclaimed, quietly popular, and anchored by a lead who knows exactly how to play this kind of role. When there is a date, I will shout it from the nearest Wi-Fi signal.
