Netflix is ramping up its anime lineup, promising fans even more must-watch series and films in the coming months.

Well, here we go again: Netflix is doubling down on anime, but this time they've teamed up with MAPPA. If you're into animation at all, that name should ring a bell—they're practically a factory for hit shows at this point.

Netflix and MAPPA: Now Officially a Thing

In a move that pretty much cements Netflix's commitment to conquering the anime world, they've inked a new 'strategic partnership' with MAPPA. The basic idea? The two will dream up new projects together, from story ideas right down to all the inevitable merch, with Netflix grabbing exclusive streaming rights for a whole bunch of original MAPPA-made anime, available everywhere that gets Netflix (which is... basically, everywhere).

Why Does This Matter?

This all adds up: apparently, more than half of Netflix subscribers are watching anime these days. Even crazier, that audience has tripled in the past five years—which means if you're not already watching, you're probably at least getting algorithmically bullied to try it.

What's MAPPA's Deal?

If you're somehow not familiar, MAPPA is the studio behind some of the hottest anime in recent memory. Here are some of their big ones:

  • Jujutsu Kaisen – Absolutely everywhere right now.
  • Chainsaw Man – The internet can't shut up about this one.
  • Ranma 1/2 – Longtime favorite, still relevant.
  • Kakegurui Twin – High-stakes, high-glamour gambling drama.
  • And, for the truly deep-cut crowd, they recently handled The Rose of Versailles (yes, based on that 1972 manga), which hit Netflix as an exclusive in 2025.

What Are We Actually Getting?

The big headline is that there are 'multiple' new anime projects on the way. Details? Not really—MAPPA and Netflix are playing coy for now. But whatever comes out of this will be part of that exclusive streaming deal. So, if you're a fan, prepare to be glued to Netflix even more than usual.

MAPPA + Netflix: The Hype (and the Business-speak)

Netflix's Kaata Sakamoto (he's their content honcho for Japan), did serve up a quote, and it's basically exactly what you'd expect—lots of talk about creative courage, global reach, and how much they care about fans and artists. To sum it up:

'We're combining MAPPA's production style with Netflix's global mega-platform. We want to take creative chances and make cool stuff that gets fans hyped, wherever they are. We're fully in on bringing new anime to everybody.'

What Now?

For now, all we really know is that this partnership is laying the groundwork for Netflix to be even more of a go-to spot for anime, and it's happening with one of the top studios in the game. If you're curious what's coming up in the next anime release window, there are plenty of lists out there—plus, if you're counting the days to more Jujutsu Kaisen, there's also new info on when season 3 is set to hit.

Bottom line: You might as well start making room in your Netflix queue now.
