Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Wraps Third and Final Season — Season 2 Updates Are Imminent
It’s a wrap: Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has finished production on its final season, setting the stage for one last epic chapter.
Netflix just crossed a big milestone for its live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender. Season 3, the final chapter, has wrapped filming. And because Season 2 shot back-to-back with it, Netflix is already teasing that Season 2 news is coming soon. Translation: expect updates in short order.
What just happened
The streamer marked the wrap with a new cast photo on Instagram via Netflix Geeked and promised 'exciting' Season 2 details are on the way. The image features the core team we know (and one very key addition):
- Gordon Cormier as Aang
- Kiawentiio as Katara
- Ian Ousley as Sokka
- Dallas Liu as Zuko
- Miya Cech as Toph
- Maria Zhang as Suki
From the production
Executive producer and writer Christine Boylan put a bow on the moment with a reflective note about the marathon shoot for Seasons 2 and 3:
'When we started working on Season 2 we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy. And here we are almost three years later wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them. I am eternally grateful to be part of this important, hilarious, action-packed team who is bringing this epic live action story to the world.'
Back-to-back seasons for a young, physically demanding show makes sense, and it also explains why Netflix is already stoking hype for Season 2 while celebrating the Season 3 wrap.
Quick refresher
Avatar: The Last Airbender started life as a Nickelodeon animated series, running from 2005 to 2008 across three seasons and 61 episodes. The story follows Aang, destined to master all four elements — air, water, earth, and fire — as the Avatar, the world’s protector tasked with restoring balance.
Where things stand
Netflix’s live-action Season 1 premiered in 2024 and landed better than the infamously bungled 2010 movie. With Season 3 now officially in the can and Season 2 shot and waiting in the wings, the next question is simple: when do we see it? Netflix says soon. I will hold them to that.
