At last, the long-awaited action-thriller sequel is gearing up to shoot this summer — and the production has revealed where the action will unfold.

Tyler Rake is suiting up again. After months (okay, years) of near-silence on the third Extraction movie, we finally have real production intel: where it’s happening, when cameras roll, and what that might mean for release timing.

What’s actually locked in

  • Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave are both back for the third film.
  • Filming is slated to begin June 2026 and run through October 9, 2026.
  • Primary location: Australia, with production centered in Sydney. There are also rumblings about a European leg.
  • This sequel was first announced in 2023, but hard details only just started to surface.
'Filming is expected to run through October 9, 2026.'

So... is it set in Australia?

Maybe. Shooting there does not guarantee the story takes place there, but it easily could. Australia’s been pulling in big productions with aggressive tax breaks and incentives, and Hemsworth getting to blow things up in his home country feels like a very on-brand win. Even if the plot globe-trots again, Sydney will be home base for the heavy lifting.

Where the franchise left off

The first Extraction hit in 2020 and introduced Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary hired to save an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son. The 2023 follow-up, Extraction 2, upped the scale and sent Rake into a Georgian prison to pull out the family of an abusive crime boss. Both movies landed well with audiences and critics because they commit to old-school, bruising action and lean hard on Hemsworth’s charisma.

When to expect it on Netflix

If production runs June through early October 2026, a 2027 debut is the reasonable bet. Nothing official yet, but the streamer and the producing team — including the Russo Brothers, who have been steering this thing from the start — clearly want to keep the momentum and lock in Extraction as a flagship action franchise.

'June 2026 start. October 2026 wrap. Australia-first shoot. That’s the shape of it.'

Bottom line: we’re getting more Tyler Rake, it’s aiming big, and it’s bringing the mayhem to Sydney — with a likely pit stop in Europe — before it lands in your queue, probably in 2027. More as it firms up.
