Lena Dunham says Netflix’s romantic comedy Too Much won’t be back for Season 2. The Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter-led series ends just over four months after its 10-episode debut.

Netflix fans, brace for the rarest plot twist of all: a show ending after one season on purpose. Lena Dunham says her rom-com Too Much is not coming back for Season 2 — and no, it is not a cancellation. This was the plan from the jump.

The ten-episode first season dropped a little over four months ago and pulled a Certified Fresh 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from 82 reviews. So the response was solid. But at a recent FYC panel, Dunham made it clear the story was always meant to be a one-and-done.

"Our intention was always to make Too Much as a limited series. It was meant to feel like a classic transatlantic love story but with time to really dig into the complexities that a film doesn’t have the space for."

If you watched it, that tracks. The show mirrors Dunham’s real life: it is inspired by her relationship with musician Luis Felber (who also co-created and executive produced the series with her). Will Sharpe plays a British musician in the show, which is not exactly subtle if you know Felber is, well, a British musician.

This was Dunham’s first major TV creator gig since HBO’s Camping, and she was all-in on this one — writing, directing, and appearing on-screen. So no renewal drama here; this is more like a limited-series rom-com that just happens to live on Netflix.

  • Also in the cast: Lena Dunham, Michael Zegen, Janicza Bravo, Richard E. Grant, Rita Wilson, Naomi Watts, Andrew Rannells, Rhea Perlman, Emily Ratajkowski, Adwoa Aboah
  • Creators/EPs: Lena Dunham and Luis Felber
  • Additional EPs: Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Michael P. Cohen, Surian Fletcher-Jones, Bruce Eric Kaplan
  • Producer: Camilla Bray
  • Season 1: 10 episodes; Certified Fresh at 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from 82 reviews

What is Too Much about? Megan Stalter plays Jessica, a New York workaholic in her mid-30s who flame-outs a relationship, alienates basically everyone, and flees to London to stew in solitude. That plan goes sideways when she meets Felix (Sharpe), who is less dreamboat and more lovable chaos agent — and their messy, undeniable connection keeps complicating things in ways that feel oddly honest.

So yes, it is over after one season — by design. The story is complete, and honestly, that feels refreshing. Not everything needs to be franchised into oblivion.
