Netflix Finds Its Assassin: FX Star Takes the Lead in Assassin’s Creed Series
Netflix has locked in an FX star to headline its live-action Assassin’s Creed series, after casting Babyteeth alum Toby Wallace, with cameras set to roll in Italy in 2026.
Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed series just added another key player, and production is finally starting to take shape. We still have a long runway before cameras roll, but the casting is getting interesting.
So, who joined?
Per Deadline, Irish actor Lola Petticrew has signed on as a series regular opposite Babyteeth star Toby Wallace. Character details are under wraps for both, but Petticrew landing here marks their first big mainstream swing after a run of strong work in indie films and TV.
Petticrew's recent credits include the features Dating Amber, She Said, and Tuesday. On the TV side, they have led roles in BBC One's Bloodlands, FX's Say Nothing, and Channel 4's Trespasses. Not a bad resume to bring into a globe-hopping, history-bending franchise.
When and where are they shooting?
Italy, sometime in 2026. Yep, this one is still early. Expect a steady drip of casting and creative updates between now and then.
What is the show actually about?
"The story is centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions - one set on determining mankind's future through control and manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will. The series will follow its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity's destiny."
That's the official synopsis, and it lines up with the games: ancient conspiracies, assassins vs. templars, and a lot of history to play in.
Who is steering this thing?
Showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener are executive producing the series, which is based on Ubisoft's best-selling video game franchise. They are joined by executive producers Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones from Ubisoft Film & Television, along with Matt O'Toole. Since the first game dropped in 2007, Assassin's Creed has sold more than 230 million units worldwide, so there is plenty of source material and a massive fanbase watching closely.
This isn't the first live-action Creed
Back in 2016, Sony Pictures took a swing with a feature film led by Michael Fassbender. It did not light the world on fire, but the core idea clearly still has legs. With Wallace and Petticrew onboard and production set in Italy, Netflix is aiming for a fresh start with a long runway to get it right.
