NCIS Won't Return This Fall, But NCIS: Sydney Spinoff Debuts in 2023
The journey begins on November 13.
NCIS fans have reason to be both saddened and excited this fall season. The cause for their sadness is the indefinite delay in the release of NCIS's 21st season.
Typically, by this time, fans would have been gearing up for new episodes centered around cases investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. This year, however, for the first time in history, the hit CBS police procedural will not be premiering its new season in the fall.
The cause of the delay is the ongoing Hollywood strikes that have stalled the production of the new season. While the strikes continue, CBS is in no rush to announce any news about the popular series. However, the network has found a way to appease the franchise's fans. They have announced a surprise fall release for the new NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Sydney.
What Is Ncis: Sydney All About?
The new series will be the fourth NCIS spinoff and the first international project in the franchise. As the title suggests, it will focus on a team of special agents working in Sydney, Australia.
As the first look at the series reveals, the plot will feature intriguing maritime crimes and the lead task force team dealing with international tensions and complex dynamics set against the stunning backdrop of one of the most breathtaking port cities in the world. In other words, everything viewers love about the NCIS franchise.
The inaugural episode of NCIS: Sydney is set to air on CBS on Monday, November 13, 2023. After that, the show will release seven more episodes each subsequent Monday.
Since NCIS: Sydney features a local Australian crew and actors who are not members of SAG-AFTRA or WGA, it is a real boon for CBS. It is the only new show the network is launching this fall. And that certainly piques the interest of NCIS fans.
‘Goosebumps from the excitement!’ a fan wrote in the comments under the first-look trailer, echoing the sentiments of many others.
The industry's current state gives NCIS: Sydney a great opportunity to shine. Will it live up to the hype? November 13 will tell.
