Yet there is a difference between 'knowing' and 'disclosing'.

The Rookie concluded its fifth season on 2 May to resounding acclaim. Indeed, Season 5 proved to be a refreshing renewal of the series, seemingly reversing the show's previous trend of dwindling viewership by breathing new life into it.

This season delivered unexpected plot twists, matured the simmering romantic tension between Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) into a bona fide relationship, and largely met the fans' expectations.

Moreover, the fifth season has laid the groundwork for what promises to be an even more impressive Season 6, which is already in development following ABC's renewal of the show in April. Nathan Fillion, who portrays John Nolan and also serves as one of The Rookie's executive producers, was eager to express his enthusiasm on Instagram.

Interestingly, Nathan already has insight into the next season's trajectory. Unfortunately, he's keeping us in suspense.

At the very least, this suggests that work on the next season had been underway even before the official renewal.

So, what do we actually know about The Rookie's sixth season? Regrettably, precious little. To date, even its release date remains unconfirmed. We can, however, reasonably speculate that ABC will continue airing it on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.

The cast will remain largely unchanged, with the possible exception of Tru Valentino. His character, rookie Aaron Thorsen, was left in a precarious coma at the close of Season 5. Meanwhile, Dave Kumar will reportedly be joining the cast, though details regarding his character remain under wraps.

Similarly, there has been no official announcement regarding the new season's plot. We can only speculate by extrapolating the unresolved plot threads from Season 5.

While it's somewhat frustrating to be kept in the dark regarding the new season's content, it's certainly much better than worrying about whether or not your favourite show will be renewed at all.
