After Productionlist.com pegged a January 1, 2026 shoot for Aladdin 2 across London and the U.S., Naomi Scott jumped on social media with a major update of her own.

Another day, another sequel rumor. This time it was Aladdin 2 suddenly popping up with a firm start date. Naomi Scott saw it and shut it down fast.

Where the rumor came from

ProductionList.com, an industry tracking site that posts upcoming film and TV shoots, recently listed Aladdin 2 with a January 1, 2026 start date. The entry said cameras would roll in London and the U.S., and even suggested the original principals were back: Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and Will Smith as the Genie. It also used a boilerplate logline about a sequel to the live-action musical rooted in the 1992 animated classic about a street thief, a magic lamp, and a princess.

  • Claimed shoot date: January 1, 2026
  • Listed locations: London and the United States
  • Listed returning cast: Naomi Scott (Jasmine), Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Will Smith (Genie)
  • Generic sequel description pulled from the first film’s setup

What Naomi Scott actually said

A Naomi Scott fan account reached out to her directly with the listing and asked if it was real. Scott replied almost immediately and, well, there was no ambiguity.

"Fake boo."

"Completely false."

The Brazilian fan account posted the exchange on October 30, 2025, adding that she confirmed the rumors are false. Quick, clear, end of story.

So where does Aladdin 2 stand?

Disney did start developing a sequel back in February 2020, with John Gatins and Andrea Berloff attached to write and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich producing. In January 2023, there were reports Will Smith would return as the Genie. Then in March 2023, Mena Massoud said a sequel was "very unlikely." In other words, there has been movement over the years, but it has never solidified in a public, official way.

Also worth noting: a Prince Anders spin-off for Disney+ was announced in 2019 with Billy Magnussen reprising his role. That project never materialized.

Bottom line: a listing on a production database is not the same thing as a greenlight, and Scott just put a pin in the latest round of speculation.

Quick refresher on the last movie

Disney’s live-action Aladdin, directed by Guy Ritchie, hit theaters in May 2019 and reimagined the 1992 animated film. Critics were mixed, but the movie was a massive hit—over $1 billion worldwide. It stands as Disney’s third-highest-grossing live-action remake, behind 2019’s The Lion King ($1.6 billion) and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast ($1.2 billion). If you want to revisit it, Aladdin is streaming now on Disney+.
