Mr. Robot Revival Verdict Finally Arrives Six Years After the Season 4 Finale
Six years after the finale, Rami Malek shuts down the chatter: Mr. Robot isn't coming back—no season 5, no reboot, no spinoff.
File this under questions that refuse to die: six years after the Mr. Robot finale, Rami Malek finally put the revival talk to bed. If you were still waiting on Season 5, a reboot, a spinoff, or even a quick Elliot cameo somewhere down the line… it is not happening.
The answer, straight from Malek
During Deadline's Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, Malek was asked point-blank if he would revisit Mr. Robot or his character. He did not dance around it.
"No," Malek said when asked if he'd revisit Elliot. "Sam and I just talked about working together again, but that's it."
That is Sam as in Sam Esmail, the series creator. So, yes, Malek is open to collaborating with Esmail again, but not on more Mr. Robot. The series ran from 2015 to 2019, and according to Malek, there is no Season 5, no reboot, and no spinoff in the cards. Definitive enough.
What he is doing instead: Nuremberg
Malek pivoted to his current project, Nuremberg, and talked about how unexpectedly lively the process has been despite the heavy subject matter. He said the script finds moments of humor in between the grim beats, crediting 'James' for threading that needle in the writing.
- Malek said the tone on set could be surprisingly light, with laughs baked into the script even as the story stays serious.
- He loves digging into history on screen, especially when it lets filmmakers retell events we think we already know — and promises this one has genuine surprises, twists, and a piece of history that will shock you.
- Co-stars Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe were all-in; Malek said they enjoyed every second.
- They shot in Hungary, and, according to Malek, the crew was so locked in that there were standing ovations after takes.
- For his role, Malek threw himself into what his character was going through and aimed to bring wit, charm, and intelligence to every scene.
Bottom line: Mr. Robot is closed for business. If you want your next hit of Malek, keep an eye on Nuremberg — sounds like he and the cast were salivating over what they were making, and that kind of energy usually means something worth watching.
