Move Over, Damon: Bonnie's Crowned the Most Selfish TVD Character

Without a doubt, The Vampire Diaries became such a hit in the early 2010s for one reason and one reason only — the insane chemistry between the main characters, who would go from hating each other to loving each other in a matter of episodes.

Add vampires, witches, and werewolves to the mix, and it becomes clear why the fandom is still discussing various ships, heartbreaks, and self-sacrifices to this day.

But no single view is universal among TVD fans, and the fact that one beloved character recently came under fire proves that notion perfectly.

The witch Bonnie Bennett is generally considered to be the most sacrificial of all the characters on the show, giving her life on numerous occasions just to save her friends. However, some fans still believe that Bonnie was a bit too self-righteous and shady, and accuse her of putting her friends in danger quite often.

'I feel Bonnie is the most selfish character — she along with the Salem witches [who] said they were honorable and selfless, but all I see is a self-righteous arrogant witch who can't take responsibility. Am I the only one thinking that Salem witches are self-righteous and treacherous chaos-makers?' a TVD fan started a discussion on Reddit.

Well, it's fair to say that most of the fandom disagrees with the characterization, arguing that Bonnie may be misunderstood in the first few seasons. While her heart is in the right place, her actions can contradict her feelings a bit. But later in the show, it becomes painfully clear how good Bonnie is and how little other characters care about her.

'I don't know how anyone can think Bonnie is selfish. She has given her entire life to these characters every time and continues to get tossed around like nothing, just keep watching,' another fan said.

For most viewers, Damon seems to be the most selfish character on TVD, as his wild antics and violent personality made him a total nightmare for any romantic interest on the show. Bonnie, on the other hand, was always sweet and caring even if she made some mistakes along the way.
