Mike Flanagan's Carrie May Turn One of Stephen King's Shortest Novels Into a Multi-Season Saga
Carrie star Michael Trucco just dropped a behind-the-scenes snap that has fans convinced season two is already in motion.
Mike Flanagan is taking on Stephen King again, and a new cast photo just quietly suggested this thing is built for more than a one-and-done. Yes, I know Carrie is a short novel. That photo still says what it says.
The eyebrow-raiser: 'Season 1'
On October 30, frequent Flanagan collaborator Michael Trucco posted an official cast shot on Instagram and called the series "something very special... and damn entertaining!" The kicker is the frame around the image: it literally reads 'Carrie season 1'. Not subtle. It is not a confirmation of renewal, obviously, but it sure looks like the plan is bigger than a single run.
Before you say, 'But the book is barely 300 pages,' remember what Flanagan did with The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher. He has a habit of taking a classic, reworking it, and stretching it into something expansive without breaking the core.
Could they borrow from The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999), that sequel about Carrie's half-sister Rachel Lang? It exists, it was never originally meant to be tied to Carrie, and most people do not look back on it fondly. I would not bet on Flanagan pulling from that.
Where things stand
Production wrapped on October 25. Flanagan marked the final day with a love letter to the cast and crew, saying it was one of the best experiences of his career. He did not tease plot specifics, but the enthusiasm was loud.
"Our last day of filming CARRIE. This has been one of the best experiences of my career, one of the very best ensembles I’ve ever worked with, and already one of my favorite projects ever. Cannot wait for you guys to see what we made."
A few days later, Trucco posted his thanks to Flanagan for 'steering the ship and dreaming this all up' and called him an incredible artist. If you follow Flanagan projects, you know Trucco pops up often, so that tracks.
So what is this version doing?
This is pitched as a bold, contemporary reimagining of Carrie White. Expect a deeper dive into how a sheltered teen, a zealot for a mother, and a brutal high school environment feed into telekinetic abilities that escalate into a community-shaking disaster. The beats are familiar; the angle sounds sharper and more current.

When and where to watch
Carrie is headed to Prime Video in 2026. Given that 'season 1' tag on the cast photo, do not be shocked if this is designed to run longer—Flanagan has the track record and the bench of actors to pull it off.
