Mike Colter shares an MCU return update and the dream storyline he wants for Luke Cage, mapping a tougher, more evolved future for Harlem’s bulletproof hero he first introduced in Jessica Jones.

Mike Colter has not played Luke Cage since Netflix pulled the plug in 2018, but he has not closed the door. In fact, he is already talking about where and how he would suit up again.

Where things stand

Colter first showed up as Luke Cage in Jessica Jones Season 1, then headlined two seasons of Luke Cage and joined The Defenders for its one-and-done team-up. Netflix canceled Luke Cage in October 2018, and he has not returned as the character since. With Disney now holding the keys to those former Netflix-Marvel shows, a comeback is actually possible. That path looks a little clearer with Daredevil: Born Again moving forward and Season 2 set to feature both Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones.

Colter is in the mix and, yes, he wants back in.

'Look, I mean, here’s the thing: I have been talking to Marvel, and Jessica [Jones]’ back, and there’s a lot of story left to tell, and I just think that it’d be a shame for me not to pop back up.'

The story he wants to tell

Season 2 of Luke Cage ended with a bold swing: Cage became the unofficial sheriff of Harlem, running the neighborhood from the inside. Colter is not interested in ignoring that choice; he wants to lean into it.

'I definitely would want to see him find out what it’s like to have the power and complete control of the neighborhood and see if he can do the right thing and, at the same time, keep his hands from getting dirty.'

Where could he pop up?

  • Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 feels like the cleanest landing spot if Marvel wants to reintroduce him there. The season is expected to arrive in 2027.
  • A direct continuation with Jessica Jones is on the table, picking up where those two left off.
  • Daredevil’s corner of the MCU is wide open for a Harlem cameo or a larger arc, and there is still unfinished business tied to Iron Fist.

Colter says he is open to any of those doors. The character has a ready-made arc, a fan base, and a cliffhanger that has sat for years. Bringing him back to see how power changes Luke — or does not — feels like a layup. Now it is just a matter of when Marvel decides to take the shot.
