Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo just found its Daphne in Mckenna Grace — and former Daphne Sarah Michelle Gellar is already weighing in, fueling buzz as Mystery Inc. enters a new era.

A fresh Scooby-Doo project is rolling at Netflix, and the first casting drop already got a blessing from a very familiar Daphne. Yes, that Daphne.

Mckenna Grace is your new Daphne Blake

Mckenna Grace has signed on to play Daphne in Netflix's eight-episode live-action series. She is the first major star attached, which tells you where the momentum is right now.

Grace confirmed it on Instagram on Feb. 17 and kept it charmingly on brand:

"Oh my jeepers, I can't believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited."

She followed that with a crying emoji and a purple heart, then tossed in a blue car and a magnifying glass for good measure.

Sarah Michelle Gellar passes the torch

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Daphne in the live-action movies Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, gave Grace a quick shoutout on her Instagram Story, writing:

"You are going to be perfect!!"

Small thing, big energy. Fans care about that handoff.

So what is this Scooby-Doo anyway?

Netflix announced the series in March 2025 as a modern rethink that circles back to the case that basically created the gang. The setup: during their last summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne team up with science-obsessed local Velma and an odd-but-charming Fred to chase down a mystery involving a lonely stray Great Dane puppy who might have witnessed something... supernatural and deadly. A darker hook than usual, but still Scooby at heart.

Who is making it

  • Showrunners and writers: Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg
  • Executive producers: Appelbaum and Rosenberg, plus André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner via Midnight Radio
  • More EPs: Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman for Berlanti Productions under its Warner Bros. Television deal
  • Studio: Warner Bros. Television

Between the camp timeline, the puppy-that-saw-something angle, and Gellar cheering from the sidelines, this one is already leaning into a playful origin-mystery vibe. If they stick the tone, Grace as Daphne feels like a savvy first move.
