Mayor of Kingstown isn’t canceled — but it is ending. Paramount+ has ordered a fifth and final season, Deadline reports, even after the latest season arrived with no immediate renewal.

So, no, Mayor of Kingstown is not secretly cancelled. Paramount+ is bringing it back for one more run and then calling it. Season 5 is officially the final season. Not a midstream dump, not a stealth kill — a planned wrap.

Is it cancelled or ending?

It is ending. Paramount+ ordered a fifth and final season, which means the show gets to land the plane instead of getting yanked off the runway. Deadline notes it is the first ongoing Taylor Sheridan series to bow out since Skydance acquired Paramount Global, which is a notable bit of timing.

Why finish it now?

This is where the business side and the creative side collide. After the recent regime change at Paramount+, the streamer pushed ahead with more Taylor Sheridan shows — Landman, Tulsa King, and Lioness — but decided Kingstown would be the one ongoing drama to wind down.

What makes that interesting is the show has actually been trending up with critics. Season 4 scored a spotless 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, a long way from Season 1’s 33%. The softer spot is viewership: unlike other Sheridan titles, Kingstown’s latest season never cracked Nielsen’s weekly Top 10. Add in that it is an expensive series to make, and the math starts to make sense.

For what it is worth, co-creators Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon once talked about a longer runway — potentially up to seven seasons (via ScreenRant). Capping it at five reads like a strategic finish: go out strong, free up resources, keep the brand momentum elsewhere. Not shocking, but a little surprising given the creative upswing.

When does Season 5 arrive?

As of early January 2026, Paramount+ has confirmed Season 5 but has not set a premiere date. Looking at the pattern — Season 1 in November 2021, Season 2 in January 2023, Season 3 in June 2024, and Season 4 in October 2025 — late 2026 or early 2027 feels like the safe bet.

One more wrinkle: the final season will be eight episodes, not the usual 10. Season 4 ended with a full-on gang war in Kingstown; expect Season 5 to pick up in the aftermath. No official synopsis yet. Jeremy Renner is a lock to return, but Paramount+ has not announced anyone else so far.
