Why this show is suddenly everywhere
It is pulling real numbers fast. According to Flixpatrol’s snapshot of Crunchyroll’s Top Ten in the US, the show jumped to 8th place off a single episode, rubbing shoulders with Gachiakuta and My Hero Academia. For a premiere week, that is a strong flex.
What Episode 2 is setting up
Quick refresher: Scarlet El Vandimion gets publicly dumped by her fiance, Second Prince Kyle of Paristan, who falsely pegs her as a bully while pivoting to marry someone else. She asks permission to go off, then absolutely does, revealing the sharp, sadistic core she usually keeps tucked away. Kyle did not keep her around for love anyway; he wanted her magic, which Episode 1 makes very clear.
Episode 2 picks up with Scarlet waking three days later and swatting away an assassination attempt from her own maid, Nanaka. Meanwhile, Scarlet’s brother Leonardo teams with Kyle’s brother Julius to launch the Crown Investigatory Office, a new unit meant to scrub corruption out of the government. Scarlet is also going to dig into why Nanaka tried to kill her and whether the would-be assassin will talk. It is a messy, political follow-up to a delightfully unhinged meet-breakup.
Who is making it
The anime adapts Nana Otori’s light novel series and is produced by Liden Films Kyoto Studio.
The core cast
Asami Seto leads as Scarlet El Vandimion, with Morgan Laure in the English dub. Wataru Katoh plays Julius von Paristan (English: Reagan Murdock). Shoya Ishige voices Leonardo El Vandimion (English: Alex Hom). Nanaka is voiced by Miyu Tomita (English: Lexi Nieto). Sigurd Forgrave is played by Kazuki Ura (English: Kieran Flitton).
