The popular TV show Young Sheldon has attracted a considerable fan base over its 6 seasons.

However, according to some strongly opinionated discussions between fans on Reddit, there are ongoing debates about the prejudice between the show's main characters. In particular, focusing on Sheldon's parents, Mary and George.

One statement made repeatedly by some fans is that George receives too much praise while Mary gets too much hate.

This sentiment has led to discussions about whether or not the show's fans are rooting for the wrong parent after all.

According to some fans, Mary, a conservative Christian mother in the 80s and 90s, is a relatively accurate portrayal of her time.

Although her parenting style may not align with today's, Mary is doing her best to raise her children according to her beliefs. Additionally, some viewers think that Mary's character should not be judged too harshly because she does much of the 'heavy lifting' in the household compared to her husband, George.

On the other hand, some fans instead believe that Mary doesn't present particularly good parenting at all. Especially in how she favors Sheldon over her other children; which is evident throughout the series. For example, on more than one occasion throughout the show, Missy receives much harsher treatment from her mother than Mary has ever given to Sheldon or Georgie.

Reflecting on George's parenting methods, fans' opinions are also mixed. It is generally accepted that the standards for George's character were always set remarkably low because of his representation in TBBT. Therefore, he gets praised for minimal acts of commitment and effort when Mary does much more to support their family.

However, on the other hand, fans also comment on Mary's detached attitude when George does make an effort. Often disregarding his attempts to help because she either thinks she knows better or simply does not trust him. Of course, there is a 10-year backstory to the show where George was less than a satisfactory father. Something some of the fans are quick to forget.

In general, the portrayal of Mary and George's parenting style in Young Sheldon is an excellent representation of how parenting can be a complex and challenging task in real life.

Both are depicted as flawed characters, each with strengths and weaknesses, adding greater depth to the show.

Maybe fans shouldn't question which parent is better but learn to accept the characters as they are? After all, the show's aim is to entertain, not to provide a blueprint for ideal parenting.
