Insomniac is putting down the web-shooters and picking up adamantium. After three straight Spider-Man hits, the Ratchet & Clank studio is now building Marvel's Wolverine with Marvel and Sony. Different vibe, same team that already nailed one of the trickiest superhero templates in gaming.

Why Insomniac?

Marvel Games general manager Haluk Mentes told Game Informer that, after a decade of working together, Insomniac wasn’t just a safe bet for Logan — it was the obvious one. The two sides have shipped multiple Spider-Man games together, built a kind of creative shorthand, and, as Mentes puts it, share the same values. He basically said once Marvel finds a partner that clicks, that partner starts to feel like part of the family.

"When the time finally came to bring Logan back in spectacular and visceral fashion, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice."

He also noted that the relationship is built to last, and they plan to keep collaborating for years.

The Spider-Man resume that got them here

Insomniac’s three Spidey titles didn’t just sell; they set the standard. That series combined the kind of kinetic web-swinging you can feel in your bones with stories that actually dig into Miles and Peter’s rogues gallery, all wrapped in a jaw-dropping New York City. Those games are, no exaggeration, among the standout big-budget releases of the last decade.

What the Wolverine trailer is actually showing

The September State of Play gameplay reveal made it pretty clear Insomniac is carrying over some of its best combat DNA. You can see Logan chaining combos and snapping between targets mid-fight — it’s aggressive and snappy, not lumbering. The trailer also hints at sections told from Mystique’s point of view, and there are glimpses of other X-Men mainstays on both sides of the hero/villain line. It looks like a bloodier, more grounded counterpoint to Spidey’s acrobatics, which makes sense for this character.

The cover is a curveball

Insomniac says the Marvel's Wolverine box art doesn’t look like their past games — on purpose. The team brought in a comics artist known for some especially gnarly Wolverine work to create the cover, which tracks with the sharper, meaner tone they’re selling.

When to expect it (and what might come after)

Marvel's Wolverine is slated for 2026. And if the stars align, maybe Spider-Man 3 swings in not too far behind it.
