Despite the 2023 strikes, this year is seeing a slew of high-profile movie premieres. This summer is especially full of them. Here are just five of the biggest movies hitting theaters in the coming months.
Inside Out 2 (June 14)
The long-awaited sequel to Pixar's hit animated film, will continue to follow Riley as she reaches puberty and enters the world of more complicated feelings, where other emotions join Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust. As Riley goes through this tumultuous time, the beloved characters will have to adjust to a new reality where they aren't the main players in the girl's life.
Despicable Me 4 (July 3)
In the sixth installment of the fan-favorite franchise, the beloved family of supervillains-turned-superagents, joined by Gru Jr., the newest member who seems to have inherited his father's worst traits, and their adorable minions, embark on yet another adventure. A supervillain that Gru and Lucy helped put behind bars has escaped and is seeking revenge, sending the main characters on the run to stay safe while they devise a plan to defeat the old enemy.
Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26)
The highly anticipated third installment in the popular Deadpool saga sees the old hero, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, join forces with Ryan Reynolds' cheeky antihero to save the entire multiverse from destruction. The first Deadpool film produced under the Disney banner, it also weaves the franchise into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which the two infamous anti-heroes are called upon to save.
Borderlands (August 9)
Inspired by Gearbox Software's video game of the same name, this sci-fi action-comedy follows Cate Blanchett's Lilith, a notorious bounty hunter who is hired by her old nemesis and one of the most dangerous outlaws in the universe, Atlas, who needs her help to find his missing daughter. To accomplish this task, Lilith returns to her hated home planet of Pandora, where she joins forces with a group of other outlaws hired to assist her.
Alien: Romulus (August 16)
The seventh installment of the popular sci-fi horror franchise is set between the first two films and follows a group of astronauts who risk their lives to scavenge an abandoned space station they encounter on their travels. The station turns out to be home to the voracious alien species that has terrified fans of the franchise for decades. And the team's chances of survival are slim.
