Mark Ruffalo Says Hulk Would Outmuscle David Corenswet’s Superman

Hulk tops Superman, says Mark Ruffalo — even David Corenswet’s new take wouldn’t stand a chance — as he teases Red Hulk’s arrival and a bigger, bolder Marvel future.
Mark Ruffalo got asked the eternal nerd bar question: Hulk vs Superman. He did not hesitate. And because the internet can never stop at one matchup, Red Hulk came up too. Here is how it all shook out.
Ruffalo picks Hulk over Superman
On 'We're Not Kidding with Mehdi Hasan,' Ruffalo was asked who wins in a straight fight: Superman or the Hulk. He answered instantly: 'Hulk.' No spin, no caveats, just Hulk. Then the follow-up: could Harrison Ford's Red Hulk take him?
'No one beats the Hulk. Not even the Red Hulk.'
Ruffalo also made a point to praise Ford while making his case. Respectfully: still Hulk.
Ford's take: shrug, joke, move on
Ford was asked a similar question in an interview with Jake Hamilton about his Red Hulk going up against Ruffalo's Hulk. He basically waved off the whole hypothetical, comparing it to the endless Star Wars 'Who shot first?' debate, and deadpanned: 'The answer is Greedo.' Classic Ford energy. Translation: he's not losing sleep over fan brackets.
Where the characters are right now
- Ruffalo has been the MCU's Bruce Banner since The Avengers (2012), and at this point he is the version most fans think of first.
- Harrison Ford took over as Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross from the late William Hurt and made his Red Hulk debut in Captain America: Brave New World, which hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
- Ruffalo acknowledged Ford joining the franchise but still says his Hulk steamrolls any crossover opponent, Red Hulk included.
- All of this lines up with where Marvel is headed anyway: multiple Hulks, more variants, and a lot of smash-friendly matchups on the table.
Why this little back-and-forth matters
It is a tiny exchange, but it shows the vibe. Ruffalo leans into the mythology and the fan debates. Ford treats the whole thing like a fun promo pit stop, tosses out a dry Star Wars gag, and calls it a day. Either way, the interest is there, and with more Hulks popping up on screen, these conversations are only going to get louder.
