The work has just begun.

When the Writers Guild of America went on strike in May, few people expected it to last as long as it did. Moreover, at the outset, no one truly thought actors would follow suit, bringing Hollywood to a near-complete standstill. As of October, these two strikes have been among the longest and most influential in the industry.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have cost Hollywood approximately $6 billion, disrupting numerous film and television projects. As a result, many of our beloved shows did not return this fall. Fortunately, there were still premieres to watch. The fifth season of Netflix's hit drama Virgin River was among the few fall releases. Now, it would appear that season 6 is on its way.

Writers Are Back to Business

Since 2019, Virgin River has been produced and distributed by Netflix, today's largest streaming service. The company releases hundreds of shows and films annually, suggesting that it employs a large number of writers. However, these writers were not receiving residual payments for their work, which was one of the main reasons the WGA went on strike.

Now that the writers and producers have reached an agreement, it seems things are about to improve for hundreds of show creators. But, most importantly, it means that writers are back to scripting our beloved shows, including Virgin River.

Virgin River Crew at Work

Just a few months ago, the stars of VR were complaining on Instagram that they were bored to death doing nothing when they should have been filming season 6 in British Columbia. Evidently, work on the next Virgin River installment has now been resumed, as the show's writers have posted some photos from their writing rooms on the series' official Instagram account.

'Thrilled to have our writing team back in action, diving into Season 6!' reads the caption under the pictures of happy writers sitting at the table.

At the same time, it's a bit premature to get excited about Virgin River's sixth season, as the actors are still on strike, and the script is far from ready. Nonetheless, the photos are certainly good news, suggesting progress is finally being made on our beloved show's next installment.

In the meantime, we can look forward to enjoying the two Christmas specials from season 5 that will be released on November 30th.

Are you glad about the news?
