Wonderland, the 3D-animated feature formerly titled Dreamworld, is expanding its cast as Jojo Rabbit breakout Roman Griffin Davis is set to star opposite Mads Mikkelsen.

Mads Mikkelsen has an animated adventure on the way, and now it has a young lead to match. Roman Griffin Davis — yes, the kid from Jojo Rabbit — is stepping into the spotlight for Wonderland.

What is Wonderland?

The film is a 3D-animated feature from Polish studio Lightcraft, previously titled Dreamworld. The story centers on Jake, a 12-year-old who dives into shared dreamscapes with his friend Jenny. Inside those dreams, they run into some very specifically named creatures called Vagapulga. If you were expecting a cutesy name, that is not it, and I respect the choice.

Roman Griffin Davis takes the lead

Davis will voice Jake opposite Mikkelsen. One of the film's co-directors and producers, Daniel Markowicz, sounds pretty sold on the casting:

"From the outset, Roman showed a strong understanding of Jake and the emotional logic of the story. That made him a natural fit for the role."

Where you've seen Davis

Davis broke out with Jojo Rabbit and has been steadily busy since. Quick refresher:

  • Earned major attention (and awards traction, including Critics' Choice for Best Young Performer) for the title role in Jojo Rabbit
  • Co-starred in Silent Night with Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode, playing Artur, the son of Nell and Simon
  • Voiced Walter Dickens, son of Charles Dickens, in the animated feature The King of Kings
  • Headlined Francis Lawrence's dystopian survival thriller The Long Walk alongside Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill
  • Most recently showed up in Greenland 2: Migration as Nathan, son of Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin's characters — a role played by Roger Dale Floyd in the first film

Behind the scenes and release timing

Wonderland is co-directed by Daniel Markowicz and Maks Naporowski, with Paulina Nowak, Derakhshani, and Michael Roesch on board as executive producers. The film is aiming for a 2026 premiere, with the exact date still to be locked.
